Dawn Michanowicz,
Founder of Tango at the Factory

Born in Paris and raised in Western Europe, Dawn speaks Italian fluently, some French and German. She
appreciates diverse cultures, loves to travel and meet people. Combined with her love of the arts, music and
theater, it is no surprise she was drawn to the Argentine Tango. She began formal Tango dance lessons in 1998
and continues learning with the “mind of a Beginner” to this day!”
After relocating from New York city to raise her sons in the burbs of Boston, she moved to central Massachusetts in
2002. In Worcester, she found a tiny community supporting Argentine Tango but soon realized the potential of such an
accessible and diverse city. The day she attended an art show at a turn-of-the-century factory building, the old
floors creaked and huge skylights lit the gallery; she turned to her husband and said, "This place is just
right for Tango." In the summer of 2005, she put her 10 years of big city sales and marketing experience to
work developing a new venue to promote the growth of tango in her new hometown. Worcester Tango At The Factory
was born.
Dawn is quite energetic: she is raising a family of 4, working full time in local government and is an aspiring
practitioner of Acutonics (acupuncture with musical tuning forks). She is also a wine consultant, prepares organic
meals for her family, an avid alpine skier, loves movies and takes an interest in a wide variety of environmental
causes. In her free time, she dances tango.
